Excerpt from the 1979 ATCR: "This season, beginning with Typhoon Bess, tropical cyclones attaining tropical storm strength or greater were assigned names on an alternating male/female basis. This change was a result of the 1979 Tropical Cyclone Conference." Given the information from the 1979 ATCR that names alternated between male and female, I suggest you review the annual reports to determine the gender of the names in question. We are unable to assist in your determination of the name gender as higher priority operational requirements prevent us from assisting. With regard to your query on TC names from 1945 to 2002, I can only state that the JTWC website contains TC names from the start of JTWC to current time. We have not and will not list the names of cyclones before 1959 as there was no JTWC prior to that year. For information on cyclones prior to 1959, I suggest you review the following web link: http://navy.ncdc.noaa.gov/products/gtcca/gtccamain.html, though I cannot vouch for the validity of the data therein. Yet I have another questions. (1) I'd like to confirm the item below. (There are TC names which became both male and female.) Please tell me whether I'm correct or incorrect. * Kelly 1981, 1984, 1987: male 1997: female * Pat 1948, 1951: female 1982, 1985, 1988, 1991, 1994: male * Val 1982, 1985, 1988: male 1992, 1995: female (2) Is there a TC names list available from 1945 to 1946 ? There is a web site of Western Pacific TCs from 1945 to 2002. According to the web site, TC names from 1945 to 1946 are below: 1945 Ann, Betty, Connie, Doris, Nancy, Opal, Peggy, Edna, Eva, Queenie, Frances, Grace, Ruth, Susan, Tess, Helen, Ursula, Ida, Verna, Wanda, Jean, Kate, Louise, Marge, Yvonne, Nora 1946 Barbara, Charlott, Dolly, Elinor, Ginny, Ingrid, Janie, Lilly, Maggie, Opal, Priscilla, Querida, Alma, Betty, Dianne But they aren't arranged alphabetically.
